Digital Portraits

If you haven’t seen it already, I have a good amount of Digital Portraits in my portfolio. I’ve created them with Procreate, and touched them up with Photoshop, Illustrator, or both!

I enjoy recreating people’s portraits is because there is so much that can be read through the eyes of someone. Whether they’re trying to put on a front or not, a lot can be seen in the depths of someone’s eyes.

Another reason I love portrait work is that people are so beautiful. How were we created? How is each person different? How differently did this person grow up, compared to yourself? How similarly? There are so many questions, opinions, and perspectives that people have and it’s all for some reason or another. Life is a beautiful thing, even though it doesn’t always feel like it.

It so fun to create a digital portrait and play with the color scheme, the textures, and other incorporations in the piece. Find the colors that feel like this person or the piece, now do the oppositie. Sometimes you are incredibly surprised what actually works best. Make it look like a newspaper, maybe not. Make it glow like neon, maybe not. Choose overlaying layers and really make a feature pop, that’s more like it. It’s all up to you, and this personality that you can change and create is a secret, until shared with the world.

Goal for my digital portraits: moving forward, incorporate more objects into the work than just the face and shoulders. Maybe add flowers, or nature of some kind. Choose something in the image and enlarge it and use it in the face of the portrait, etc.
